TWO ABC Learning centres will remain open under new ownership, but the future of one Sale-based centre is in doubt.
Receivers for the ABC2 Group, Stephen Parbery and Daniel Bryant of PPB, announced this week that operators had been found for the ``vast majority'' of ABC2 child care centres around Australia and they would remain open beyond this month.
ABC centres in Reeve St, Sale and Maffra were among more than 200 centres with confirmed new operators.
NurtureOne will take over the operation of these two centres.
PPB believes all necessary arrangements for the takeover would be in place by May 15.
But no new operator has been found for the ABC Sale Central centre in McCole St and negotiations to find a new operator are continuing.
A PPB spokesman said Sale Central was one of eight centres nationwide that hadn't attracted suitable operators and there weren't sufficient long day care places available at other child care centres in Sale to take the children.
The spokesman said PPB would continue to explore every possible option to find a solution for the Sale Central centre.
It will also continue to have Federal Government financial support to stay open until June.
The ABC centre at RAAF Base East Sale also has a new operator, B4Kids Pty Ltd.
B4Kids will take over the management of 21 Defence child care centres nationwide on May 18.
RAAF Base East Sale Wing Commander Sharyn Bolitho said families using the Defence centre were pleased with the outcome for defence centres.
But she said some Defence families were concerned about the future of the ABC Sale Central centre, as some Defence families relied on the centre for before and after school care.
Mr Parbery said the fact the majority of ``unviable'' centres around Australia would remain open was an excellent outcome.
''PPB has undertaken a thorough and extensive process and we are satisfied we have identified operators that have demonstrated experience, financial capacity and commitment capable of delivering sustainable, high quality child care for children and their families,'' he said.
PPB believes more than 80 per cent of ABC employees nationwide will be offered employment with the new operators, and workers' entitlements were protected
