Assault victim dies

A MAN seriously assaulted on Sunday in Bairnsdale has died in the Alfred Hospital.

The 28-year-old Bairnsdale man died on Tuesday afternoon.

Bairnsdale Crime Investigation Unit investigators on Sunday charged a 25-year-old Prahran man with assault charges including intentionally causing serious injury, arising from the incident.

The man was bailed to court at a later date.

Homicide Squad Detectives will now take over the investigation.

MOTORISTS may have been surprised to see what appeared to be six mobile speed camera vehicles lined up on Foster St, Sale on Wednesday.

While it may have appeared that speed camera operators had become too brazen, it was actually a training exercise for new operators for the private speed camera contractors for Victoria Police.

Despite inquiries to Victoria Police, VicRoads and Civic Compliance Victoria and contractor Serco the Gippsland Times was unable to find out whether the speed cameras operators would be issuing speeding fines.

Quad bike stolenA SUZUKI four wheel quad bike was stolen from a property in Tarra Valley Rd, Devon North, sometime between Saturday and Tuesday, according to Yarram police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to phone Yarram police on 5182 5033.

WHEELIE bin thefts are continuing to be a problem in the south of Wellington Shire, according to Yarram police.

Thieves have been stealing the bins from properties in Yarram, Won Wron and Woodside in recent weeks.

Police said there appeared to be no pattern to the thefts and stolen bins were sometimes full of rubbish.

Residents are reminded to keep an eye on their bins and to report any suspicious behaviour or thefts to Yarram police on 5182 5033.

POLICE are reminding drivers to be considerate of tractors on the roads during the spring season.

Yarram police have received reports of tractor drivers and farm workers being concerned for their safety while travelling on roads, with cars speeding around the slower vehicles.
