Cabinet to visit shire

05 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
MEMBERS of the State Government will visit Wellington as part of its Community Cabinet.

Premier John Brumby said the June 15 and 16 tour, which will also take in Latrobe, Baw Baw, South Gippsland and Cardinia municipalities, was part of a series of Community Cabinets being held in bushfire affected areas across the state.

Exact details of the visit, including locations, had not been finalised at time of going to print but Yarram is expected to be the location for the meeting in Wellington shire.

Wellington shire mayor Darren McCubbin said council would be working to organise a variety of events for the visitors.

"We will push for the government members to visit a wide range of places in the area and to make a couple of announcements,'' he said.

"It will allow them to look first hand at the issues involved in the recovery phase and it will allow the community talk to the government about the recovery phase and the bushfires.''
