Childcare hopes up

12 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
THE future of the ABC Sale Central Centre is looking brighter, with receivers PPB hopeful they will soon have a new owner for the childcare centre.

The future of the McCole St centre has been in doubt since April when PPB announced no new operator had been found for ABC Sale Central.

Sale Central was one of eight ABC2 centres nationwide that hadn't attracted suitable operators but was located in a town where there weren't sufficient long day care places available at other child care centres in Sale to take the children.

But a PPB spokesman told the Gippsland Times this week that there had been an expression of interest in the centre and "possible progress'' was being made to keep the doors open.

The centres are currently operating with Federal Government funding until an announcement about their future is made.

The spokesman said PPB was "confident there could be an outcome'' for the Sale Central centre in a matter of days.

Receiver Stephen Parbery told another media outlet this week that PPB was in negotiation with parties who had come forward since their announcement last month that no operator had been found for centres such as Sale Central.

"I'd be hopeful that, over the next few weeks, we'd be able to make a positive announcement about the others,'' he said.
