CHAIR of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority Christine Nixon will be the key speaker at the Yarram Bushfire Action and Recovery Expo this weekend.
The expo has been organised by the Yarram and District Community Recovery Group.
Entry is free.
Wellington Shire mayor Darren McCubbin said the expo was a great initiative and would be a timely lead up to Fire Action Week.
Two separate events will occur on the weekend.
Tomorrow will be a fire prevention and safety day focussing on `being prepared', while Sunday will be a workshop titled `looking to the future'.
"The Saturday will feature displays and exhibitions from emergency services and private providers of emergency equipment and information services,'' Cr McCubbin said.
"It is very hands on.
"There will be information and demonstration booths from government departments, rural suppliers, counselling and health services, insurance organisations and many emergency services.
"Sunday is also open to everyone and will be lunch and a community recovery workshop at the Regent Theatre.
"This workshop will enable the community to work together, to discuss projects and priorities in community recovery.''
All community groups in the district have been invited to send representatives to the workshop.
Child care is being provided to make it easier for families to participate.
Ms Nixon will be the keynote speaker on the Sunday during the lunch.
She was Chief Commissioner of Police before being appointed head of VBBRA after the Black Saturday fires.
Both days are open to everyone but bookings are required for the Sunday event for catering and child care purposes.
People can register by phoning Anne O'Loughlin from Wellington Shire Council's recovery team on 0418 367 584 or 1300 366 244.
The Saturday expo will be open at the Yarram Recreation Reserve from 10am to 3.30pm.
It will include working demonstrations and hands-on use of equipment.
Children's games and a free sausage sizzle will also be available.
