Council directors calling it quits

05 Feb, 2010 04:00 AM
AT least two directors will not apply for positions under the organisational restructure of Wellington Shire Council.

Jim Wilson finished in his role as corporate services director last Friday while community and development director Bruce Graham will leave council today.

The remaining directors Steve Dickson (community and development) and Chris Hastie (assets and operations) may opt to seek positions in the new-look structure.

Chief executive Tim Johnson last month unveiled the restructure, with the existing council departments replaced with four new ones: liveability, development, environment and emergency management, and governance, with a general manager to oversee each.

An executive manager will also be appointed to co-ordinate community consultation and communication.

Mr Johnson said the restructure was in line with the Wellington 2030 vision, which the previous council passed after around 1500 members of the public were consulted.

"It is incumbent on the organisation to align itself to deliver this vision, moving forward, and that's exactly what we've done,'' he said.

"We are part-way through this process, and the new structure will come into effect on Monday, February 22.''

Mayor Scott Rossetti said the chances reflected community opinion.

"That fact that all this work is going into aligning our organisation with the aspirations of our community is to be highly commended,'' he said.
