Funds for CFA

24 Aug, 2009 03:41 PM
CFA branches in Briagolong and Heyfield will both receive funding boosts to upgrade current training resources.

The Briagolong branch will receive $7500 and Heyfield $6000.

The Federal Government grants provided under the National Volunteer Support Fund will assist both CFA branches to purchase audio-visual equipment that can be used as training resources in preparing for emergency situations.

Gippsland MHR Darren Chester said the need to provide adequate resources for staff and volunteer training was vital in maintaining the high level of support Gippslanders expect of local emergency services.

"Being as well trained and prepared as possible is a key priority for volunteers and members of the community across a wide range of local emergency services,'' Mr Chester said.

"Funding that helps to provide resources to maintain the high standards that emergency services provide is essential for the safety of volunteers, other emergency services staff and members of the local community.

"In light of recent natural disasters, the community has recognised the constant need for support at the ground level and Federal Government funding to make sure emergency services receive the best possible facilities to prepare for emergency situations.''
