HEYFIELD'S hospital services will receive a healthy boost with a $79,000 funding injection from the State Government.
State Health Minister Daniel Andrews visited the hospital on Tuesday as part of the community cabinet visit to Traralgon this week.
Mr Andrews said Heyfield hospital received the funding to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment.
The funding will be used by the hospital to upgrade its defibrillator, crash cart, vital signs monitor and the emergency trolley, and replace the vaccine/drug fridge and syringe driver.
Some funds will also be used to purchase a bedpan macerator for getting rid of disposable bedpans.
Mr Andrews said the funding aimed to ensure hospitals like Heyfield could provide high quality health services to their communities.
"This equipment funding enables Victorian hospitals to stay at the forefront of new technology to ensure they continue to provide the best possible care to patients,'' he said.
Heyfield hospital health service manager Anne Woollard said the new equipment would be put to good use.
"We're obviously delighted to receive the funding; it's enabling us to update equipment that's either quite old or has been superseded by a new technology,'' she said.
"It'll especially enhance our ability to care for emergency patients.''
Ms Woollard said many of the equipment purchases would make for a safer working environment for their staff.
Mr Andrews also used the visit as a chance to personally congratulate Heyfield GP Dr Peter Stevens on his Queen's Birthday honours recognition for his contribution to rural medicine.
"Dr Stevens has made an outstanding commitment to the delivery of vital health services for local residents having operated the Heyfield Medical Centre for 20 years,'' Mr Andrews said.
