THE Heyfield Ambulance sub-committee is campaigning for a full-time paramedic and an upgrade to facilities, claiming the current situation puts too much pressure on its six volunteers.
According to the sub-committee, funding for a full-time paramedic would improve medical response times and take pressure off the six ambulance community officers.
The sub-committee has collected more than 1700 names on a petition as well as letters of support from local businesses for the upgrades.
Sub-committee member Louise Vuillermin said the six volunteer ambulance officers who ran the station worked an on-call roster after hours.
"This means they finish their day jobs and are on call (from home) overnight until the morning when they go to their respective work venues and on the weekends,'' she said.
"During business hours ambulance requirements are met by full time paramedics from the surrounding ambulance branches of Sale, Maffra and Traralgon.''
The Heyfield Ambulance sub-committee is urging locals to attend the handing over of the submission and show their support at the George St ambulance branch next Wednesday from 10am.
