HEYFIELD reasserted its dominance in North Gippsland football outplaying Churchill in a high standard grand final on Saturday.
While crowd numbers were slightly down at the grand final, played at Traralgon, it still paid a gate of more than $28,000.
A best-on-ground performance by midfielder Luke Conway helped steer Heyfield to its second North Gippsland premiership in three years.
Churchill challenged with its characteristic midfield control, fast breaks and at times looked likely claim back to back flags.
However the Cougars' inaccuracy in front of goal in the final term proved costly and the Roos comfortably took the premiership 15.13 (103) to 10.14 (74).
In the West Gippsland-Latrobe preliminary final against Moe, Maffra came from one goal behind at the final break to storm home with an impressive eight-goal final term.
The win sets up a grand final appearance for the Eagles against Traralgon at Morwell on Saturday.
And in the Alberton Football League grand final Leigh McQuillen, formerly of Maffra, led Stony Creek to an upset win over league powerhouse Wonthaggi at Foster.
McQuillen, in his second year coaching Stony Creek helped the Lions win their first senior flag since 1983.
