DRIVERS are being urged to take care on the region's roads following a horror run of car crashes on the weekend which included two deaths at Stratford.
Twenty-year-old Bundalaguah woman Courtney Pedersen and 27-year-old Newry man Fred Woolley died in a collision on Stratford-Briagolong Rd about 5am Saturday.
Police believe the car was heading east along the road when Ms Pedersen lost control of the vehicle, running off the road and hitting several trees.
Police said Mr Woolley was thrown from the vehicle and the body of Ms Pedersen was trapped in the wreckage.
The road was blocked for several hours while police cleared the scene.
Just the day before on Friday a female driver died and her passenger was injured in a crash on the Princes Highway near Swan Reach.
Police believe the car ran off the road before hitting some trees and then an embankment.
The injured woman had to be placed in an induced coma and was flown to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.
Both women were in their 40s.
On Thursday a five-year-old boy was airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne after his family was involved in a car crash on the Princes Highway at Cobains.
Sale police said the crash occurred around 11.30am when a Maffra man travelling west along the highway slowed down to make a right hand turn into Yuill Rd.
A Stratford woman driving a Nissan Navara behind him collided with the back of the man's Toyota Hilux, shunting his car forward and sending it spinning across the highway.
The woman was travelling with her four children at the time.
Her five-year-old son was airlifted with suspected internal injuries and his mother accompanied him to Melbourne.
The man was taken to Sale hospital with what was believed to be minor neck and back injuries.
The woman's three other children, a 12-year-old and three-month-old twins, were taken to Sale hospital.
The highway was closed and traffic diverted for more than an hour while police and ambulance crews worked at the scene.
Sale police said five ambulances as well as the Helimed chopper were called to the scene of the crash.
Police said the accidents were a reminder for people to take care when driving on roads, especially highways where people are travelling at speeds of up to 100kmh.
Investigations are continuing and anyone who witnessed the Cobains crash is asked to call Sale police TMU Leading Senior Constable Mal Cook on 5143 5000.
