Housing dream realised

07 Aug, 2009 05:00 AM
CONSTRUCTION of housing for young people with disabilities in Sale marks the realisation of a dream for a passionate group of local residents.

Community Housing Victoria is building a cluster of 10 specially built townhouses for people with disabilities on a block between McCole and Howard Sts.

Construction is due to be completed early next year with people starting to move into the units around May.

The cluster of units will have seven one bedroom units, three two bedroom units, and a communal space for the residents to gather together in.

The community housing project has been more than six years in the making, all starting with a group of parents who wanted to create a secure future for their children.

Frustrated with the lack of accommodation options for adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, parents such as Ted Dawson and Arthur and Judy Lyneham had a dream to purchase land and build housing through community assistance.

The Rotary Club of Sale has since come on board to support the project and a committee, Five Star Project Inc, was formed to drive the project.
