A LEARNER driver caught hoon driving in Yarram's main street has had his car impounded and will be charged on summons.

Yarram police caught the 18-year-old Stawell man in the act on Wednesday afternoon after receiving reports from local residents of "hoonish'' driving in Commercial Rd.

Police said there were three other occupants in the car at the time and none of them had licences.

The man's car has been seized for 48 hours and he will appear in Sale Magistrates Court charged on summons at a date to be determined.

A SALE man has been sentenced to almost two years jail for his involvement in three aggravated burglaries in Sale earlier this month.

Thirty-six-year-old Rodney Owen pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated burglary and associated offences in Bairnsdale Magistrates Court recently.

Owen was sentenced to 23 months jail with a non parole period of 19 months. The charges stemmed from burglaries at a motel, a home and an apartment in Sale in the early hours of June 11.

A 35-year-old man was also charged in relation to the burglaries and is yet to appear in court.

POLICE are seeking witnesses to a criminal damage attack in the Safeway supermarket carpark in Sale on Sunday.

The vandals used a key or coin to scratch a length of the driver's door of a silver 2006 Holden Commodore sedan, taking off the metallic paint and causing damage to the panel.

The victim's vehicle was parked in one of the first few carparks along the footpath outside the after hours entrance to the supermarket between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Leading Senior Constable Carol Oram at Sale police on 5143 5000.

I'm sure Safeway (Gippsland Centre) and indeed the CBD could benefit from an extensive CCTV network to catch these pathetic losers. (Ipswich Council Model) Over time they would pay for themselves both in a preventative context and that of being able to make these vandals accountable and pay for their actions. Another upside is that it would create jobs (because you need people to monitor them obviously), and give law enforcement and extra set of eyes on trouble spots. If Sale want's to call itself a City then it needs to tackle crime like it is a city!
