STAGE two of works to upgrade Little McMillan Park at Lake Guthridge in Sale has begun.
Wellington Shire Council parks and environment services manager Tim Rowe said now the new picnic shelter had been completed, focus had moved towards reclaiming the north-west corner of the lake.
"Once the area has been reclaimed we will plant more trees and add more tables and seating for visitors,'' Mr Rowe said.
"Little McMillan Park has always been a very popular recreational area and we are aiming to make it even better.
"We plan to have all the major works on the park completed by July 2009.''
Works to be completed by July include construction of a new public toilet behind the police station on the lake side of the road; a redesign of the car park to improve traffic flow and parking; reclamation of the north west corner of Lake Guthridge to increase play and recreation space; planting new trees and installing new park seating and tables.
Works to improve traffic flow and parking are expected to commence as soon as the reclamation on the north-west corner on Lake Guthridge is complete.
"The only major disruptions will be to the car park and Macintosh Drive and we will advise motorists to changes in conditions as they occur,'' Mr Rowe said.
"While we apologise for any disruption during this work, we would like everyone to know that the park will still be open during these works.''
The works on Little McMillan Park are part of council's capital works program for the upgrade of the Lake Guthridge parklands precinct. Total project cost will be $300,000.
