A MOTORCYCLIST in Heyfield was lucky to escape with minor injuries after he crashed his motorbike on Wednesday.
According to police, the man was part of a group of motorcyclists near Burgoyne Track when his motorbike hit a rock and he was thrown off his bike.
He was taken to Central Gippsland Health Service with a broken collarbone.
A WORKER at a sand quarry near Willung almost lost his hand on Monday afternoon when it became jammed in a conveyor belt.
According to police, the man's hand was caught in a conveyor belt on a work platform 6.5 metres above the ground.
With his other free hand he managed to reach his mobile phone and call for help.
With the efforts from the CFA and SES he was eventually freed and airlifted to hospital.
The man's hand was badly crushed.
Worksafe is investigating.
HEYFIELD police are urging farmers to maintain their fences after two cows were hit by cars in the past week.
While no injuries were reported, both cars involved in the collisions were damaged beyond repair. Heyfield police senior constable Greg Cogan is now appealing for farmers to ensure their fences are secure.
"Farmers need to be really diligent about their boundary fences near major roads,'' Sen Const Cogan said. "It's now only a matter of time before there's a major accident.''
