IN A fitting tribute to Stratford's namesake, children can now enjoy playing in a medieval themed park.
Complete with a dragon, castle, a catapult-style see saw, and the sword in the stone, the design of the park was inspired by the town's annual Shakespeare festival.
The park was officially opened on Saturday by Wellington Shire councillor Beth Ripper, who lauded the medieval theme.
"Shakespeare is indelibly linked to Stratford. With Shakespeare being so important to Stratford, how could our major play space feature anything other than a replica of a castle from the period?'' Cr Ripper said.
"This equipment not only accommodates physical play, it is also designed to stimulate children's imagination.
"It's the only playground around where children can really play hidey.''
Cr Ripper said the playground would become an integral part of the Shakespeare festival, owing in part to its theme as well as its design.
"It's also been designed to hold a perfomance as well.''
