WELLINGTON Shire Council has recorded a higher satisfaction rating among residents than most other large rural shire councils across the state.
For overall community satisfaction, Wellington scored 64 out of 100 - two points higher than last year.
The median score for large rural shire councils was 62.
Wellington scored 73 for customer contact and 60 for community engagement - both around the average for similar-sized councils.
In specific performance areas, Wellington scored high marks for health and human services (71) and recreational facilities (70), with lower marks coming for local roads and footpaths (52), economic development (56) and town planning policy and approvals (56).
Among the suggestions for improvement, respondents said council needed to effectively consult with the entire community and wanted more parking facilities near shopping and business centres.
The survey was conducted independently of council by a private research group.
The shire also scored higher, at 66, than the state average in its advocacy of key local issues.
Councillor Malcolm Hole said the report showed council had not gone backwards in the past 12 months, according to the community.
"I'm pleased to say that when we look at the report ... the majority of people in Wellington Shire are really thrilled with what this council, and the one before it have done and are doing,'' he said.
"We set out to make Wellington a great place to live, work, invest, play and raise a family, and I can assure you, from what I'm seeing in those results, we are achieving it.''
