Sale's footy fever frenzy

25 Sep, 2009 12:36 PM
SALE is in the middle of a fever outbreak _ Grand Final fever, that is.

Now only hours away, the AFL premiership match between St Kilda and Geelong has whipped locals into a frenzy, with many shop fronts flying their club's colours.

One such display in the back of a Sale shop was described as a `shrine' to the Cats.

From the classic footy scarves, jerseys, and even a modest club pin, everyone seems to be throwing their support behind their team of choice this year _ and with good reason.

For many locals, this year's premiership is especially significant, as two local players will be competing against each other.

Sale's Jason Gram will take to the field for St Kilda, and Heyfield's David Wojcinski is likely to be wearing the Cat's colours tomorrow. (Read all about the two local families in our sports section).

Support for the Saints rang strong in Sale, as shown in our Street Beat results.

While our reporters couldn't make it out to Heyfield, we at the Gippsland Times are certain the Cats would have garnered just as much support in Wojcinski's home town.
