Irrigation increase

04 Aug, 2009 10:25 AM
SOUTHERN Rural Water has increased allocations for all for customers in the Macalister Irrigation District and for diverters on the Thomson and Macalister Rivers and Rainbow Creek by five per cent.

Acting general manager water supply Lincoln Eddy said this would bring the 2009/10 seasonal allocation up to 40 per cent of high reliability water shares.

''This increase is a result of the steady inflows in to Lake Glenmaggie over the past two weeks,'' he said.

''While Southern Rural Water and the Macalister Customer Consultative Committee hope that spring rains will see the reservoir fill and spill, this increase will allow customers to start planning their water requirements,'' Mr Eddy said.

Although customers in the Macalister Irrigation District cannot use their allocation on farm until the start of the irrigation season on 15 August, they can trade their allocation beforehand.

Customers on the Thomson and Macalister Rivers can access their allocation by ordering their irrigation requirement on ''Waterline''.

''Southern Rural Water will review available water and make an allocation announcement every two weeks as the season progresses,'' Mr Eddy said.

''The next allocation announcement will be on 11 August.''

For more information about the allocation or water trading, phone Southern Rural Water on 1300 139 510 or visit www.srw.com.au.
