THREE Sale and District Little Athletics records were set in ideal conditions on Saturday.
Joel Safstrom finally managed to break the under 13 boys’ javelin record, after already holding the javelin record for the under 11s and 12s. Safstrom threw 30.20 metres, passing the old record of 28.64m set by A. Norris during the 2009-10 season.
Sharna Warry broke her own under 14 girls’ javelin record by 1.78m, throwing 26.22m.
Lauren Hepworth added five centimetres to her under 16 girls’ high jump record, clearing 1.4m.
About 50 athletes enjoyed a day of coaching last Sunday. Organised by centre president Neville Warry, three coaches covering sprints, hurdles, throws and jumps travelled from Melbourne for the clinic.
There will be no Little Athletics at the Sale centre this weekend because of the centre’s involvement in the state relay championships at Albert Park in Melbourne tomorrow. The next weekly meet will be held on Saturday, February 4.
Training sessions for registered Sale athletes will resume next Thursday from 4pm.
