MORWELL recorded its first win for the Latrobe Valley baseball season after defeating Sale 5-4 at home on Sunday.
With the Rangers coming off a bye, this was a very close contest with the sides swapping the lead throughout.
Errors were made on both sides, but the pitching and batting was good.
Better players for Morwell were Aaron Warner, Tristan Standing, Brian Randall and Chris Heppleston with Will Hector, Andrew Norman, Hannah Jackson and James Jackson Sale's best.
Churchill suffered its first loss of the season, going down to Traralgon Redsox 7-3 at Churchill.
The Braves made some costly errors early and the Redsox capitalised by bringing in runs.
Jude Power, on the mound for the Redsox, kept the Braves scoreless for the first four innings while he collected 15 strike-outs.
The fifth inning saw Churchill finally get on the scoreboard with three runs, but another error by the Braves gave the Redsox another two runs to secure their win.
ANOTHER close game was seen in B grade when Sale pipped Churchill, 7-6.
Hannah Jackson pitched well for the Rangers, keeping the Cougars at bay until the third inning, when they managed to bring in six runs.
But the game was already decided in the top of the inning when the Rangers scored their seventh run on the back of a costly Cougar error.
Better players for Sale were Jackson, Ben Duhig, Brendan Heyman and Andrew Norman.
Traralgon had a convincing 17-2 over Churchill.
SALE took a 6-5 win over Morwell in C grade.
Nicole Garner, Rhiannon Smith and Tom Munns led the way for the Rangers.
Traralgon defeated Churchill 20-2 in the other match.
IN colts, Sale was a convincing winner over Morwell, 21-3.
The Rangers' best were James Jackson, Tom Kelly, Nicole Garner and Josh Scicluna.
Traralgon had an 8-5 win over Churchill.
NO games will be played locally this weekend with the state senior championships being held at Geelong.
Latrobe Valley will be compete in division one after winning division two last year.
