OVER the Queen's Birthday weekend more than 50 teams participated in the Sale Amateur Basketball Association annual tournament.

Teams came from Sale, Maffra, Bairnsdale, Yarram, Traralgon, Moe, Mornington, Morwell, Frankston and Western Port with age groups extended from under 10 to veterans.

OA Ruff and Bishop Phelan stadiums were filled with players, supporters and even some cheers squads.

There were many close matches, showcasing the skills of our up and coming basketballers.

SABA president Ryan Fraser said it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves over the weekend.

"The games were of a great standard, providing many highlights over the three days,'' he said.

"A stand-out was the veteran men's competition, with many dads attempting to show their children how it was done - some with limited success.

"We also saw Ex-WNBL player Narelle McConnell playing with the successful Maffra women's team.''

The host association took out the boy's under 12, 14A and 14B, girls' under 14A and veterans' sections.

Maffra was victorious in the boys' under 10s, girls' under 12A and 18s as well as the women's.

For the Maffra under 10 boys, it was their fourth straight tournament win. Over the four events, they have not lost a game.

The team is hoping to continue its winning streak at the Melbourne Tigers tournament at Dandenong next month.
