THE Sale Sonics advanced to the Country Basketball League Gippsland men’s semi-finals after winning both their final round matches at home on the weekend.
The Sonics will travel to Warragul to play the minor premier Warriors tomorrow night from 7pm.
The Sonics began their tough double header with a 95-61 win against the ladder leading Churchill Blue Devils.
Between Ryan Pendlebury, who shot a game high 29 points, and Matt Counahan, 25, topped the total Churchill score.
Needing one more win to make the final four, the Sonics hosted the Traralgon T-Birds on Sunday afternoon and finished ahead 78-57.
Pendlebury again top-scored with another 20-plus performance, while Billy Hughes and Andrew Quirk finished with 17 points.
THE Maffra Eagles missed out on a place in the women’s semi-finals after two losses at home on the weekend.
The Eagles lost to Traralgon 79-50 on Saturday night despite Kate Bond scoring a match high 18 points and Jaz Allman 13.
On Sunday, the Eagles were out-classed by Churchill, 83-48. Breeanna Kerton scored 13 points for the Eagles, while Stacey O’Brien led the way for the Blue Devils, scoring 26.
