Anderson crowned top cricketer

COLLEGIANS captain Stuart Anderson was named the Sale-Maffra cricketer of the year during the association's presentation night on Saturday.

Anderson, who scored 326 runs at an average of 40.75 and took 26 runs at 10.09 during the home and away season, won the Noel Freshwater Award with 16 votes, one ahead of Wurruk skipper Ian Wrigglesworth.

Boisdale-Briagol ong's Dylan Bolton came third on 10 votes.

Wrigglesworth won Don Mynard Medal to the association's top batsman after scoring 470 runs at 78.33.

The Allan Evans Medal for best bowler went to Collegians' Luke Henderson, who took 26 wickets at 12.58.

Anderson, Wrigglesworth, Bolton and Henderson were all also named in the SMCA team of the year.

Collegians was named the SMCA's top club of the season, winning the Jack Abel Trophy with 540 points with Maffra second and Bundalaguah third.

Special guest for the evening was cricket legend Doug Walters, who gave the audience great insights into the life of a test cricketer during the 1960s and 1970s. He also gave his thoughts on some of the issues in cricket today, from Muttiah Muralitharan's bowling action to the twenty20 revolution.

Under 16s, batting: Bradley Scott (Rosedale-Kilmany); bowling: Jarryd Floyd (Sale City).

Under 14s, batting: Matthew Mitchell (Sale City); bowling: Lachlan Channing (Stratford).
