SOME of the biggest names in Australian cricket will stop by in Sale during a tour of Gippsland next week.

The Australian Cricketers' Association Masters team will conduct a clinic in Sale on Monday, September 20.

The team will be led by Damien Fleming, Rodney Hogg, Terry Alderman, Greg Blewett and Greg Matthews.

The tour will also involve two matches, against a Traralgon XI at the Traralgon Recreation Reserve on Friday, October 17 from 5pm and a team made up of Sale-Maffra and Bairnsdale players at the Bairnsdale City Oval on Sunday, October 19 from 2.30pm.

The matches will consist of 25 overs a side, guaranteeing big hits and plenty of action.

The tour, primarily funded by the current players, is all about promoting cricket in regional area and searching and supporting talent.

Fleming, an ACA board member and veteran of 20 test matches, said the communities and the players would benefit from the tour.

``The impact these visits have in lifting spirits in regional communities who may be doing it tough is really important,'' he said.

``The ACA Masters program ideals are about maximising community connectivity and supporting all efforts to generate game development in regional and rural Australia.''

Meanwhile two young Gippsland players will be awarded $2500 bursary to meet coaching, travel and other cricketing expenses. The players will also receive a $500 equipment voucher.

Fleming said the cricketers would receive mentoring from a Masters player.

``What we are on the look-out for is people, male or female, with the talent and desire to play first class cricket. Many of our current and former Australia players have come from regional areas in Australia, so this is a very important part of the total tour program,'' he said.
