 Cat gets the cream

Cat gets the cream

HEYFIELD'S David Wojcinski was a major part of Geelong's AFL grand final win last Saturday.

After starting the match on the bench, Wojcinski collected 13 possessions, helping the Cats defeat St Kilda, 12.8 (80) to 9.14 (68), in one of the best AFL grand finals in memory.

Wojcinski's second premiership win makes up for the disappointment of missing out on the Cats' grand final loss to Hawthorn last year.

Mother Lee Wojcinski said the family had all enjoyed an exciting weekend.

"We've all had a great time,'' she said.

"It was a very exciting game, we're very proud.''

Mrs Wojcinski said winning the grand final topped off a fantastic week for David, who also welcomed baby boy Monty Max with his partner Casey on the Wednesday night before the match.

"It's been a very exciting, very hectic week,'' Mrs Wojcinski said.

"Everyone is looking forward for some time to relax.''

But there was heartbreak for Sale's Jason Gram, who was named as the Saints' best in the loss and seen by some as unlucky to miss out on the Norm Smith Medal to Geelong's Paul Chapman.

Gram topped his side's possession count, gathering 30 for the match, including 11 in the third term.

MEANWHILE, the next crop of AFL hopefuls have been going through their paces at the AFL Draft Camp at the AIS in Canberra this week.

Maffra's John Butcher, Nathan Vardy from Yarram and Bairnsdale's Koby Stevens are among the young players undergoing a series of tests under the watchful eyes of club coaches and recruiters.

Butcher, fresh off helping Maffra win the West Gippsland-Latrobe premiership, has been touted as a potential high draft pick.

The AFL Draft will be held on November 26.
