AFTER a week off for interleague, West Gippsland-Latrobe football resumes on Saturday with Sale hosting fourth-placed Warragul.
The Magpies would have enjoyed the week off with no representatives in the senior squad, giving them to the chance to rest niggling injuries.
The week's rest couldn't have come at a better time, as it also gave the Magpies time to reassess after their disappointing effort at Moe.
The Mapgies were belted by the Lions to the tune of 107 points as the home side played better in the wet conditions, which have been tipped for on Saturday.
Sale's more experienced players, such as Chris Laverty, Corey Scholtes and Russell McAdam, led the way against Moe and the same will be expected on Saturday with the side still fielding many youngsters.
Warragul has struggled in matches at the eastern end of the league since returning to this company in 2005, having failed to win at Sale or Maffra with six of those losses by margins in excess of 100 points.
The closest Warragul has come to winning in the east has been a 41-point loss to Sale last season.
Saturday presents the Gulls with a great opportunity to turn that around.
It could also be a chance to boost their percentage. At 87.5, only Sale and Drouin have a worse percentage.
IT'S first against last as Maffra travels to Garfield.
Last time the Eagles visited Garfield, in round eight last year, they had their biggest defeat for 10 years, 127 points.
The Eagles were impressive against Leongatha, outplaying the Parrots to win by 91 points. They took control in the first quarter and never relinquished it, kicking eight goals to two in the final term to finish the job.
They ran hard all day and their attack on the Parrots ball-carriers was superb, forcing turnovers.
The forwards finished their fine work, with Adrian Burgiel in good form after returning from injury, kicking seven goals against Leongatha. He backed that up by booting six goals in the interleague match last weekend.
Burgiel, Gary Jones and Ben Batalha were West Gippsland-Latrobe's best players in the loss to Mornington Peninsula-Nepean.
Hayden Burgiel returned to the field last weekend for the WGLFL after an ankle injury.
Two weeks ago, Garfield was overrun by Drouin, losing by 49 points after only kicking two goals up to three-quarter time.
A RESURGENT Traralgon will travel over the Strzeleckis to meet Leongatha.
The Maroons have won their past two matches, coming off a five-point win over Morwell to sit outside the top five on percentage.
It has almost been the reverse for Leongatha.
After a great start to the season, which culminated in topping the ladder for three weeks, the Parrots have lost their past two matches, first at home to Drouin before being outmuscled by Maffra.
The Parrots have won their last two games at home against Traralgon. When these teams met at Leongatha last season, the Parrots won by 50 points, their best win over the Maroons for five years.
NEIGHBOURS Morwell and Moe will do battle in an important match on Sunday.
Following a loss to Traralgon in round seven, a win for the Tigers is vital against the Lions.
With a loss on Sunday and at Warragul next week, Morwell could be 3-5 and lose touch with the top five.
The Lions have risen into second place after their big win over Sale.
The match promises to be high-scoring with the sides scoring the second and third most points this season, but Moe has had a better record in defence, conceding 23 less points per match on average than the Tigers.
DROUIN has the bye.
