FIVE of Gippsland's most promising under 17 girls have been selected into the Victorian elite female soccer program at the National Training Centre.

Madelaine Richardson from Sale, Taryn Browne (Churchill), Jacqueline Vogt (Traralgon), Alexandra Gummer (Warragul) and Stephanie Tanti (Hazelwood North) have all represented Victoria at national championships.

Identified for their many strengths, the players have travelled to the State Soccer Centre for trials in Melbourne four times a week.

Richardson, Vogt and Tanti were awarded with full-time positions while Browne received a part-time. Training for these girls will be five to six times a week which includes technical, tactical and gym sessions.

Gummer is part of the training program where she attends when she can while still training and playing for her club.

Further elite opportunities have also arisen for all players within the NTC program when Football Federation Australia resurrected the women's national league last year, giving young players a chance to play in an Australia-wide competition.

Richardson began her soccer career at Sale City, as it was then called, as a five-year-old and has represented Gippsland since she was 10 in 2002.

She was selected to represent Victoria from 2003 to 2007 and was captain of the state under 15 team in 2007 at the national championships. Richardson was selected into the NTC program in 2006-07.

In 2008 she was recovering from a broken leg.

Richardson began playing the sport through in central midfield, where she was able to score goals, but has since grown into a strong defender, where she prefers the right-back position.

Tanti was part of the inaugural Melbourne Victory women's team last year.

Vogt is a solid central defender who has represented Gippsland since 2005 although back then she was a seasoned striker scoring many goals.

Browne began her playing career at Churchill United and has represented Gippsland since 2004 and was selected to represent Victoria in the 2006 and 2007 squads.

Gummer has represented Victoria in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 and was vice-captain of the under 14 Country team in 2006.
