League leaders defeat Swans

SALE United went down 3-0 to Gippsland Soccer League ladder leader Fortuna in Morwell.

The win keeps the Orangemen on top on goal difference, while the Swans remain in sixth place.

There was the same score in the reserves with Fortuna finishing on top.

The Swans won the second division match 3-1.

Jon Piefke scored two goals for United with another to Jacob Joyce.

The side is fourth, behind third-placed Tyers on goal difference.

Sale United defeated Trafalgar 8-2 in the women's competition.

The Swans got out to a 5-0 lead in the first after two goals from Alysha Quilty and Tina Nguyen and one from Shanae Quilty.

Trafalgar responded with two goals before half-time, but Shanae Quilty scored three more goals after the break to finish the match with four.

The Swans are in third place on the ladder, three points behind leaders Monash and Churchill Red.

The GSL will take the Queen's Birthday weekend off.

Sale United's next match will be at home on Sunday, June 14.

The men's sides will meet Tyers with the women playing Monash.

THE Battle of Britain Cup began last night with Falcons hosting Tyers.

The first round continues next Wednesday with Churchill United playing Moe United, Traralgon City hosting Fortuna and Newborough-Yallourn meeting Monash.

Sale United is one of three teams with a first round bye.
