SALE United under 14s have made Gippsland Soccer League history by claiming both the league championship and cup for the third consecutive year.
Coach Grant Richardson was proud of the team's achievements this year, saying every player had been an asset to the side, stepping up and putting in.
''To go through a season undefeated is a milestone and a testament to the boys and their commitment to the world game,'' he said.
It all began in 2007 when the under 12 team went through the season undefeated under coach John Meade. The positive winning form continued on in the under 13s in 2008 under the guidance of Ross McWhirter.
United was without Harry O'Reilly and Tommy Nguyen for the final because of state selection, but was still able to defeat Moe 4-1 in the final.
Ashley Ross was awarded best-and-fairest for the final.
The team again won the double this year after being able to maintain its core group of players. Many of these players all began their playing careers at the club through the under eight competition and also the club's summer primary schools twilight tournament.
The club's focus on developing players to their full potential is beginning to become significant with many talented players being selected into Gippsland representative, Champions League and FFV state teams.
Seven players from this team represented Gippsland at Victorian Country Championships in 2009. Brenton Rees, Ashley Ross, Harry O'Reilly, Tommy Nguyen and Jake Meade were all part of this squad which finished runner-up.
Jacob Richardson and Dean Nichols featured in the Gippsland under 13 squad which as Victorian Country champions.
Richardson, O'Reilly and Nguyen were identified through the Victorian Summer League tournament and were given the opportunity to trial for a state team.
Richardson trialled for the under 13 team. He was one of only two players from country Victoria left and although he did not make it, gained a lot out of the experience.
O'Reilly and Nguyen have recently been selected into the state under 14 country team. They will travel to Coffs Harbour to compete in the Australian National Youth Championships from October 3 to 10, along with the best players from across Australia.
