Trying conditions for dogs

01 Oct, 2009 01:58 PM
VERY trying conditions faced greyhounds and their handlers at Sunday's Sale TAB fixture.

Driving rain swept across the track with strong winds that led to average times for the meeting.

Kilmany mentor Jason Leonard produced Daniella from a two month's break to lead all the way in the grade 5, scoring by three lengths in 25.48 seconds for the 440 metres.

Blazin' Arch led virtually all the way over the 520m to win by more than six lengths in what was a good time on the night of 29.79s, keeping up with his well-performed brother Mister Mooroduc, who scored at Traralgon the previous day.

Boisdale trainer Dawn Johnston had her greyhounds race very well.

Pauline and Graham Laidlay, who put so much time into the sport, were rewarded with a double.

Jazash was a big winner by five lengths in the A grade five in 25.24s, and Timley Omen took off for the GOBIS grade five final, and a total winner's purse for the Devon Meadows pair of $4000.

Tanjil South-based Peter Giles also with a double - Surfing Boy in the first leg of the quaddie, stopping the clock for the 520m at a good 29.58s and Cracked Ice led all the way in the mixed 25.01s.

There was a boilover in the GOBIS grade five final when Cold Alcatraz saluted for Langwarrin trainer Merv Patching at odds over $20.
