VICTORIA and New South Wales are set to clash in the women’s final of the national indoor hockey championships at Sale on Saturday.
After four rounds, NSW is undefeated, while Victoria had only one loss ahead of tonight’s round robin match at the Gippsland Regional Sports Complex.
Today’s other match was between Queensland and a Hockey Australia Invitational team. In the last round before the final tomorrow, Victoria will play Queensland from 4pm before NSW meets the invitational team from 5pm.
NSW appeared set to also appear in the men’s final following wins in its first three matches, but a 4-3 loss to Western Australia on Wednesday has kept things open with the Australian Capital Territory and WA vying with the defending national champion for the two spots in tomorrow’s final.
The Victorian team, which includes Sale’s Mark Benfield, has struggled, failing to win a match over the first four days of the tournament.
Today the ACT will meet WA and NSW plays Victoria. Tomorrow Victoria will meet WA from 3pm with NSW taking on the ACT from 5pm.
Finals action on Saturday begins with the third and fourth play-offs from noon and 1pm, with the women’s final from 2.30pm and the men’s from 4pm.
