FIVE goals from Victorian striker Tegan Boucher helped Victoria claim the women’s national indoor hockey title.
The home side defeated New South Wales 6-1 in the final on Saturday at the Gippsland Regional Sports Complex.
Hannah Gravenhall opened the scoring for the Victorians in the fourth minute before Boucher scored four within 12 minutes. Claire Rieck pegged the deficit back for NSW only for Boucher to add two more goals to her collection.
Boucher’s haul propelled her to the top of goal scoring list for the tournament, finishing with 11.
Victoria and NSW went into the final as the clear in-form teams, losing one match each against each other during the early rounds.
The men’s competition was closer with NSW, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory level on points after six rounds with the defending champion NSW and WA qualifying for the final on goal difference.
NSW claimed the title 4-3 with Flynn Ogilvie scoring twice and Simon Beaton and Ben Poulton once each. Tournament leading scorer David Orr found the net twice for WA with Darren Parkes scoring once.
