 Hoping for a happy Easter

Hoping for a happy Easter

10 Apr, 2009 05:00 AM
EASTER Saturday racing will be at Bairnsdale and Sale trainer Cliff Murray looks set to play a leading hand on the day.

"I've entered Abitofun and Skybee in the 2200 0-68, but Skybee is also in at Moonee Valley on Thursday night. We'll just see how things pan out, but she could well head there,'' Murray said.

"Abitofun is a galloper we picked up at the sales as a tried horse and he hasn't put a foot wrong since we've had him.

"He ran second at Moe two starts back when he probably should have won and then last start ran second at Mornington on a track that was probably too heavy for him. I expect him to be very hard ot beat.''

Murray said he was also more than likely to start comeback galloper Haka Brave in the Lindenow Cup.

"He bowed a tendon about 18 months ago in the Sale Cup and we've brought him along very slowly, but he has done everything we've asked,'' he said.

"The 1200 metres will probably be a bit short, but he's been in work for about five months as we've gradually built him up.

"He is a very nice horse with above average ability and it would be terrific to get him back racing somewhere near his best.''

LEA Worseldine is the new manager of the Bairnsdale Racing Club and brings to the position a strong background in the racing industry.

She was heavily involved in the establishment of Lindsay Park's Victorian arm in Euroa and was an office manager of Creighton's Creek Bloodstock.

"I gained a strong insight into the breeding aspect of the industry in 2002 when the property at Euroa was used as a stud farm in collaboration with Adam Sangster's Collingrove Stud, standing outstanding sires Scenic and Perugino. Following this, it primarily became a breaking and pre-training centre,'' Worseldine said.

When David Hayes returned from Hong Kong there were more yearlings being purchased and more spellers coming up from Flemington and Angaston. It became a very busy place.

"I've been lucky to work with some strong and friendly teams, which is of paramount importance - nothing is too difficult and if you have the support and friendship of those around you, you can do anything,'' Worseldine said.

Worseldine, who also holds a Bachelor of Business degree, says one of her major aims will be to increase non race day revenue for the BRC.

ANOTHER interesting runner at Bairnsdale Easter Saturday will be Stony Creek galloper Don't Look Ethol.

She is from the same stable as Listed winner Rockpecker and is likely to accompany her better known stablemate on a Queensland campaign in the coming months.

A wet track specialist, she will appreciate any give in the ground and connections will be hopeful of a first up showing suggesting she is worth picking up a minor race or two up north.
