FOUR-year-old gelding Offenders won the Sale Cup for owner Sheik Mohammed.
It capped off a good day for the Dubai-based Sheik's Darley stable, as trainer Peter Snowden and jockey Kerrin McEvoy combined to also win the first race with Willigobung.
Sale Turf Club chairman Thelma Coster said it was a wonderful day.
The crowd behaviour was outstanding and the young racegoers are to be congratulated for the way they dressed up.
The girls, in their colourful outfits, were comparable with the fashions at Caulfield and Flemington. The boys, not to be outdone, came decked out in suits and ties in a variety of colours to make the Sale Cup the feature sporting event of the Wellington Shire.
The marquees that stretched well down the straight added to the colour and atmosphere of another outstanding Sale Cup day.
The track and surroundings were in great shape. An indication of just how good the track at Sale was came in the final event when local galloper Emjay Hussey flew out of the gates and was never headed to run the 1200 metres in a new record time of 1:08.45 minutes.
Trainer Ian Hutchins was delighted with the five-year-old gelding's win.
Offenders won the Sale Cup with another classic ride from in-form jockey Kerrin McEvoy ahead of Caulfield galloper Nine Tales, ridden by Craig Newitt, and outsider Ace Harmony, ridden by Billy Egan and trained at Flemington by Mark Kavanagh.
Offenders is trained at Flemington by Peter Snowden and stable foreman Brett Conlon, who has been with the stables for 12 years, said McEvoy rode an outstanding race.
Conlon said the Greenwattle track suited the gelding, who had been disappointing at his last two starts, but Snowden had a lot of faith in the horse and expected Offenders to keep on improving.
When Sheikh Mohammed bought Ingham Racing Centre, it added 600 horses to his Darley racing stables.
He began the day at Sale with a win in the first, with three-year-old gelding Willigobung, ridden by McEvoy, won the 1500m maiden plate, from Macho Nacho and Desiago, ridden by Peter Mertens.
Agrippa, ridden by Danny Nikolic, won race two, the three-year-old maiden plate over 1200m.
Mark Flaherty and partner Nikki Burke combined to win race three, the 1200m maiden plate with Dimi The Dancer.
Our Preston, ridden by Nathan Rose, won race four, the 0-62 handicap.
Flaherty completed a riding double with a win on Allison Bennett's Law And Order in race five, the Class 4 handicap.
The Hawkes training team and jockey Steven King combined to win race six with impressive three-year-old Dissolved, who won at Sale in September.
Brad Rawiller won race eight on Testa Rocketa, who has been on a bit of a journey with runs at Mornington, Morphettville and Wangaratta.
It was another outstanding Cup day, Sale will next host a meeting on Thursday, November 12.
