THE time-honoured $75,000 Sale Quality run over 1200 metres will be the feature event on the Sale Turf Club meeting this Sunday.
The weather should remain fine and the running rail will be in the true position
The Sale Quality has produced many well-performed winners over the years, including the Darwin-trained galloper Undue in 2006 who went on to win the 2006 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate in 2007 and more than $1 million in prize money.
Gippsland-trained horses have a good record in the race with the 2011 winner King Hoaks, trained by Moe trainer Allison Bennett, and the 2007 winner Candy Man, trained at Sale by Kevin Milham.
Milham has Miss Matari nominated this year after running a good second in the race in 2010. Miss Matari was in all sorts of trouble last start at Caulfield and a return to her home track may suit.
A number of well-performed horses have been nominated for this year’s race, namely Danzlum, trained by Robbie Griffiths, coming off a last start third in the John Dillon Stakes at Caulfield on Australia Day. Flyingconi looking to make it three wins on end after a win at Flemington over 1400m recently and the lightly-raced Anthony Freedman-trained four-year-old Zabeel gelding Studley Park.
The field looks set to be a cracker with the evergreen galloper Rockpecker and the Cliff Murray-trained Skybee also nominated.
Tanjil, trained by Mario Farrugia, gets its chance in the 1200m maiden after running second to smart filly Miss Provocative last start.
Rebecca Kelly’s gelding Incorruptible was held up for a run at Sale recently and could improve on Sunday.
Sharyn Trolove has entered Joeys Star for its debut in the 1200m maiden.
Zellemsee continues to run around the money and will run in the 1200m or 1600m Country Showcase.
First race for the day will start at 1pm. There will be activities for children, including a jumping castle and playground, while there will be a big screen to view the races.
