Speedy win in Quality

06 Feb, 2012 01:28 PM
IN another top day’s racing at Greenwattle, Pakenham galloper Speediness lived up to his name by winning the Sale Quality.

Speediness has been a model of consistency with three wins and four placings from only eight starts. Sunday’s first prize of $45,750 took the Testa Ross four-year-old gelding’s winnings past the $175,000 mark.

It was an impressive win as second-placed Princess Narine was coming off a last start win at Caulfield. Miss Matari, trained by Kevin Milham, came third.

The victory completed winning double for jockey Glen Boss, who began the day in great form with a win on the Danny O’Brien-trained Spirit of Rose in race one, the Super VOBIS three-year-old fillies maiden plate.

Nicholas Hall went one better than Boss, winning the final two events to complete a treble. Hall began his winning run on Crystalised in the race five maiden plate, before completing his treble on Muirfield in race eight and Tycoon Express in the last event.

Stringy, with breeding links to Zabeel and trained at Sale by Andrew Murray, gave the locals a thrill with a fighting win in race four, the 1400 metre maiden plate.

Ridden by Matthew Hall, Stringy scored an impressive win and looks to have a very bright future. Allen said the three-year-old gelding was nice to ride, raced wide then picked the leaders up very quickly when he got into the clear and gave the impressive he would stay all day.

Murray said Stringy was bred at the Windsor Park stud in New Zealand where his brother Paul and sister Rachel worked.

Murray said the gelding would next race at Sale in two weeks, but was not looking any further than runs in the bush for the promising three-year-old.

Cranbourne trainer Nikki Burke was delighted with Emmooki’s Star’s win in the race two maiden plate.

Danny O’Brien completed a training double when Cape Canaveral, ridden by Noel Callow, won the race three maiden plate.

Stephen King and trainer Pat Carey combined to win race six, the 0-62 handicap, with Kissy Lips.

It was another top day’s racing, with the next meeting at Greenwattle on Friday, February 17.
