Sun and showers

28 Sep, 2009 02:58 PM
HORSES and jockeys had to contend with sunshine and showers at Greenwattle last Thursday.

Hidden Charges, ridden by Michael Rodd, charged to the post to win race three in steady rain, while Peter Moody's promising three-year-old colt Tee Emar was greeted by a blaze of sunshine when he raced away from the field to score an impressive win in race seven.

Ridden by Luke Nolen, Tee Emar has been racing well with a third placing at Bendigo and a last start second at Geelong.

The Hawkes family training team Michael, Wayne and John combined with jockey Steven King to take the honours at Sale. They won with Lonhro colt Dissolved then completed a double in the last when four-year-old Grail Jeuney, with breeding links to Jeune, also raced away for an impressive win.

The Hawkes team looks to have a very good youngster in Dissolved, a first starter who raced away from the field in the run home to win the three-year-old maiden plate.

The Hawkes team was also pleased with the run of Grail Jeuney, who completed the riding double for Steven King. It was the second win for the gelding, who has two wins and three placings from only 10 starts.

Moe trainer Allison Bennett won the Country Showcase 0-68 handicap with six-year-old Emerald Poacher, who has now won just over $50,000 in prize money with five wins and three placings from 27 starts.

Local galloper Skybee, trained by Cliff Murray, finished just behind the leaders in fourth place.

In its 20th start, Four-year-old Count Dewin finally broke through for a win in the race one maiden plate.

Carsons Creek, trained at Sale by Paul Worthington, finished second.

Sky Devil, ridden by Matthew Gatt and coming off a last start second at Geelong, won the 0-72 handicap. The five-year-old gelding also won at Sale in August.

Testa Rossa mare Testy Girl, ridden by Brian Higgins and coming off a last start win at Pakenham, made it two in a row with a win in race six, the Class 1 handicap.

It was another outstanding day's racing at Greenwattle and the stage is now set for the event of the year, the Sale Cup, to be run on Sunday, October 25.
