MAFFRA is teeming with motorcycling enthusiasts as the Australian Junior Motocross Championships at Newry pick up the pace.
With the qualifying finals beginning today, the 700 young competitors will be whittled down to the select few champions over the weekend.
According to Motorcycle Australia's publicity officer Erin Lagoudakis, the quality of the riding at Newry has been outstanding.
"The riders, their technique is just picture perfect,'' she said. "You're just constantly amazed by just how good they are.
"Everyone has been so well behaved, there's so much enthusiasm around.''
The facilities at the Newry motocross track have held up to the daily onslaught of riders - several of which are international competitors, Lagoudakis said.
"We've also got heaps of international riders competing. We've got several from New Zealand, some from Indonesia and even a few from America.
"The track is definitely holding up really well. The (Maffra-Sale Motorcycle) club has been working on it for about the past 18 months and you can really see the results.''
While Newry is definitely the place to be, Maffra has also experienced a marked increase in activity as competitors take in some local sights with their family members.
Maffra Chamber of Commerce secretary Bec McQuillen said the visiting families had been taking in what Maffra had to offer.
"There's definitely been a bit of activity in the streets,'' she said. "The town appears to be a bit quieter in the morning when they're all riding, but in the afternoon they all head in to grab a bit of lunch and have a look around.''
