Motocross junior open

09 Jul, 2009 12:22 PM
TOP junior motocross riders from all over Australia are expected to travel to Newry this weekend for the 2009 junior open.

The open is being held prior to this year's Australian Junior Motocross Championships, from September 26 to October 3.

The junior open will take place at Newry on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is expected to attract over 600 junior riders.

The usual race format is only three rounds, for the junior open the club is hosting four rounds to give riders a taste of the Australian titles.

Maffra-Sale Motorcycle Club president Mark Tyquin said the club was improving its facilities to cater for both the junior open and the Australian titles.

"The Maffra-Sale Motorcycle Club is not only one of the oldest tracks in Australia but one of the best,'' he said.

Heyfield rider Jason Tyquin said he was looking forward to the event.

"Just like any other event Newry hosts this will be terrific for racing,'' he said.

Valencia Creek rider James Alen said the track was going to be in great condition for the open.

"I hope it will be a great couple of days for racing and that overall I will get a great result,'' he said.

The Newry Motocross Complex is located down Tatterson Lane, Newry, behind the golf course.

Admission is free.
