Exciting netball ahead

EXCITING times lay ahead on the courts in North Gippsland netball this season.

The introduction of a fifth grade for under 17 players will add another dimension to the league along with all clubs supporting a new disability competition.

AFTER a stand-out inaugural season in which it sealed finals berths in all grades, Woodside will be strengthened by the inclusion of a number of new key players.

A grade premiership coach Kristy Lucas remains at the helm with Carly Foat as assistant.

After coaching D grade to the grand final, Jenny Foat has stepped up to coach both B and C grade sides with many new faces set to take the court. Vanessa Banik returns in a coaching role in D grade.

Laura Foat will try her hand at coaching with the under 17 team, which is showing plenty of promise with more than 14 girls competing for a place in the squad.

BOISDALE-Briagolong has benefited from an intense pre-season program which has boosted the confidence of a young list.

Yvonne Buyers has assisted the club's coaches in fine-tuning the players' skills and fitness which will aid in making marked improvement on last season's performances.

Lauren Forsyth will lead A grade, Nicole Gieschen B grade, A grade player LaShay Tricker has taken on the role of C and D grade coach while Jo Chambers will take on the under 17s.

Former Maffra A grade player Forsyth will bring much knowledge and experience to her role and is looking forward to the challenge of coaching the developing side after playing last season in a key position.

Although losing its two main players, the B grade side has three new recruits as it looks to surpass the efforts of last season, when it just missed a finals berth.

AIMING to emulate the feats of 2008, Sale City has worked hard over the pre-season to build on the foundations which saw all four grades contest finals for the second consecutive year.

This season sees the return of a number of players and coaches along with numerous recruits which will build on City's depth across all grades.

City has recruited strongly with sisters Caitlyn Morgan and Kirby Boyle and talented junior Ashleigh Robbins valuable additions to the A and B grade teams.

These additions and the return of A grade premiership players Joc Willox and Emma Neal from maternity leave will see the Bulldogs as true premiership contenders.

Named in the league's 2008 team of the year, Emma Petch will take on the reigns of the A grade side as a playing coach. Jan Te Maru has returned as coach of B grade after leading it to the grand final.

C grade coach Kylie James is aiming to defend the side's premiership title, while C grade premiership player Amanda Jackson is D grade coach.

The Bulldogs have recruited a strong list for their under 17 side, to be coached by Tanya James.

COWWARR has hit the court running ahead of the upcoming season with three new coaches at the helm.

Consistently making the finals in recent years, the Saints' D grade side is looking for continued success under senior player Ebony Ferguson.

The Saints' development of their young players is evident in them claiming the league's D grade best and fairest award for the past four years.

C grade will again be coached by Kellie Tomholt, who has a strong side which will benefit from a number of additions.

Bec Massaro has backed a number of young girls to step-up and play a higher level and challenge themselves in B grade.

While Kate Rowley is the new A grade playing coach, she has a strong defensive background and is expecting a lot from the season ahead.

Returning this year is Kate Smith after a year off with two new players in Ebony Tyler and Hannah Lade.

AFTER a difficult 2008, Traralgon-Tyers United is bouncing back and aiming high this season.

A number of players have returned to the club while a variety of newcomers are adding strength to all grades.

With various coaching qualifications, Shirley Fromberg brings with her a wealth of knowledge and will take on the A grade coaching position.

Sim McMahon and Kim Aitken will instil their enthusiasm as coaches of B and C grade, while Jess Zaghet and Dani MacLennan will combine to coach the under 17s.

Brooke Arend remains D grade coach for 2009.

BOASTING a new-look A grade outfit led by Emma Wojcinski, Heyfield will benefit from the inclusion of three strong recruits who contested the club's last A grade premiership a decade ago.

Sale City A grade premiership player Melanie Johnston will be joined by Belinda Oldham and former Maffra goal shooter Serrin Stobie.

They add to an already strong list with Bek Berry, Marnie Barry, Sarah Schellen, Angela Carolan and Sarah Christian all returning.

Joan Foat will coach B grade for the second season with Jessica and Emma Stevens returning to the club.

First-time coach at Heyfield Angela Clarke has a good mix of experienced players along with some youngsters in what will prove to be a strong C grade line-up.

Donna McAinch will coach D grade while Foat will also nurture the under 17s, who will be keen to prove themselves at senior level.

GLENGARRY is confident all teams can make their mark in 2009 after they all partook in finals action last year.

This season Amy King will pass on her strong knowledge of the game to the A grade side while Erin Wilson will be at the helm of C grade.

Rachel Shaw will continue to develop the B grade side while Narelle Parsons is taking on a coaching role for the first time in D grade.

A grade players Rachel Lamont and 2008 league rookie of the year Jessica Lowe will be striving for a finals berth when they take to the helm of the under 17 squad.

A CHANGING of the guard at Churchill will see a number of new faces on the sidelines.

Successful recruitment over the break will see a fresh Cougar outfit in all grades.

The season is looking to be the most successful year yet for Churchill in all grades.

Heather Notting will develop a strong list of juniors in the under 17 competition while senior player Stacey Spence has put together a strong D grade side.

Sharon Middlemiss and Kathy Quinn will combine as C grade coaches.

Linda Welsh and Rachel Essler are back coaching A and B grade respectively, continuing on with their fine work of last year.

ROSEDALE believes the level of talent among its youth will once again see it return as a force.

With the introduction of the under 17 competition, sisters Jess, Kristy and Nelly Mayne, along with Steph and Emily Dessent and new players Sarah Mayman, Krystal Callow, Amy and Megan Harrison will hold their own against strong competition.

Head coach Alan Ryan has been busy recruiting to fill the void of a number of senior players who will sit out the season, welcoming Tahlia Dyall, Kate Patten, Tara Saunders and Jess Manning along with the returning Julie Gerrand and Kaylene Marshall.

Ryan will be assisted by Amy Dyall, Carly Meehan, Bridget Kase and Lorelle Lowe.

THE experienced Greta Douch will again oversee all grades at Gormandale this season.

Douch will look to emulate the feats of last season which saw the Tigers' D grade side claim its fifth consecutive title along with the B grade flag.

Douch will be confident the current crop of players will create the right mix to fulfil the feat of four premiership cups on the mantle in 2009.
