MAFFRA defeated Sale 30-23 in the under 15 West Gippsland-Latrobe netball grand final.
Both teams moved the ball well in the first half with Sale leading 6-5 at quarter-time and led 14-13 at half-time.
Maffra, who had been runner-up in the past two under 15 grand finals, played its best netball for the match in the third quarter to lead by three at the final change.
Defender Brodie Brunt, who was named best-on-court with good support from Molly Havers and Maddie McMillan, limited the scoring chances of the Sale forwards.
Mikahla Callahan and Tayla Egan were good in attack for Maffra with midcourt players Jacklyn Gray, Abbey Gray and Grace Howe involved in the quick movement of the ball which set up goals.
Sale defenders Chelsea Fernandez, Karina Allan and Caitlyn Fyfe all played well.
Chloe McIntyre and Chloe Cousin were good at midcourt, while Tori Dessent and Georgia Andrews were good in attack.
Sale won a high standard under 17 grand final against Traralgon with slick passing accurate goal shooting and teamwork being a feature.
The first half was real arm wrestle, at quarter-time it level at 10-all and after another quarter of goal-for-goal netball, it was 19-all at half-time.
Sale played its best netball in the third term, outscoring the Maroons 13-6.
Sale defenders Gemma Skeen, Brittany Jones, Tahlia Lange and Lauren Ryder helped turn defence into attack, Grace Lappin-Lee, Maddie Fuhrmann and Tina Nguyen were good in midcourt and, in attack, Alanna Jones and Camille Johnson shot with uncanny accuracy when the match was there to be won.
The Maroons fought back in the final quarter with Aimee Davidson and Brittany Mustoe doing well in attack but Sale held on to win 39-34.
Sale went into the grand final without match winner Sarah Jolly, who was on a plane to Vietnam for a school geography excursion when the match was being played.
Sale coach Di Jolly said after the win she was delighted with the teamwork and spirit of the girls. who were at their best when challenged by a very good Traralgon team.
Traralgon finished the season undefeated in the under 13 after defeating Sale 39-24.
Traralgon led 8-7 at quarter-time then broke away in the second quarter to lead 22-11 at half-time, but Sale coach Maree Gleson was pleased with the way the Magpies fought out the second half, with Traralgon scoring 17-13 in the second half to win 39-24.
The only matches Sale lost during the season were to Traralgon.
In A grade, Traralgon met Drouin, who were trying to make it three premierships in a row.
The Maroons led at every change and held on in a desperate finish to win 40-37, with Traralgon goal defender Julia Currie named best-on-court.
In B grade, Traralgon was favourite but Morwell was outstanding with a 57-39. Tigers goal attack Claire Allison was named best-on-court.
The C grade clash was a thriller. Scores were level at 30-all at full-time, after extra time it was 32-all then after the golden goal rule was applied, Morwell won 37-35.
Morwell's Kym Sherriff, who started in defence and also played well as goal shooter, was named best-on-court.
